From one Ramadan to a lasting brotherhood.

Where it began

Friends of Mosque (FOM) was established in 2016 at Alkaff Upper Serangoon Mosque. During Ramadan, the mosque needed a larger group of volunteers to help prepare and serve break-fast meals for the congregation.

With too few local volunteers available, a group of Bangladeshi migrant workers stepped forward. They prepared meals, served the congregation and cleaned the entire area after the event — often putting the congregation first even when it meant delaying their own meal.

A place in the mosque family

The volunteers’ sincerity and dedication were recognised by the mosque management team, then led by Mr Salehan Ahmad, Mr Jumain Mohamed and Mr Azri Mustafa. Staff member Mr Mohamed Anas Mustapha — affectionately known as “Abang Anas” — was asked to work closely with the brothers.

With his encouragement and guidance, the group became part of the mosque’s volunteer family and adopted the name Friends of Mosque.

Who we are today

Still serving for the same reason

FOM has grown into a volunteer network with around 25 active core members and approximately 200 volunteers. Though the scale has changed, the purpose remains simple: to contribute time and effort sincerely, for the sake of Allah and for the good of the wider community.
